With The Asylum's next release, the raunchy comedy Celebrity Sex Tape, less than two weeks away - it comes out Valentine's Day - I thought we'd take a look at the film's director, Scott Wheeler, a guy who has an extensive resume in and out of The Asylum.

Wheeler began his career in visual effects in the late 1980's, working on such projects as Xena, Space: Above and Beyond, Buffy and Millennium before segueing into films. In 2007, Wheeler became visual effects supervisor at The Asylum, a position he held for 23 films including Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Mega Piranha, Transmorphers and 100 Million B.C., just to name a few. In 2008 he directed for the first time: The Asylum's take on Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth; Wheeler also wrote that film's script. Journey marked the first of four films (to date) Wheeler has directed, and all for The Asylum: Journey, Transmorphers: Fall of Man, MILF and now Celebrity Sex Tape.

Bottom line, then, Celebrity Sex Tape is in the hands of a seasoned Asylum vet. And if MILF is any indication, we can expect a salacious but intelligent, horny yet heartfelt film from CST. Find out on the sweetest day of the year, February 14th, when the film hits DVD...

A Plethora of Asylum Teaser Trailers Hit the Web Today!!!

Celebrity Sex Tape Gets a Poster!!!

Today the fine folks over at The Asylum revealed the poster for their next sex farce, Celebrity Sex Tape:

Pretty standard poster, white background a la all Asylum comedy posters, and plenty of titillating promise. In case you forgot, this is the premise:

A group of college nerds secretly record a washed up celebrity having sex and post the tape on the internet. When the publicity revives the actress's career, every B-list celebrity, reality show reject, and celebutante in Hollywood want to star in the guys next "production."


Rrrrrracy...the film - directed by Scott Wheeler (MILF) from a script by Jonny Haug, Pat Sheehan and Matt Short and starring Jack Cullison, Emily Addison, Jonathan Brett, Colbert Alembert, Howard Cai, Andre Meadows and Julie Barzman - hits DVD on February 14th, 2012, making it next year's perfect Valentine's gift.

First Details on CELEBRITY SEX TAPE!!!

It was recently announced in an interview with Asylum producer David Michael Latt that there was a new sex comedy in production from the studio, Celebrity Sex Tape. Well, in typical Asylum fashion, no sooner do we learn of it than the darn thing's near-done. And over at the Asylum site, they've put up the first details. Check out the plot:

"A group of college nerds become overnight sensations when they secretly record a washed up celebrity having sex and post the tape on the internet." 

I like that concept, smarter than your average "get-me-laid" sex comedy. It comes courtesy of a triad of writers, Jonny Haut, Pat Sheehan and Matt Short. There wasn't a Johnny Haut on IMDB, there were like, seven Pat Sheehan's, and I think Matt Short may be involved with Spike TV's "MANswers," but my awesome research skills aside, it's fair to assume this is a trio of newcomers, which means fresh jokes.

As far as the cast is concerned, it features the amiable Jack Cullison, star of last year's highly-enjoyable MILF, Emily Addison of copious shorts, Jonathan Brett of Stupid Teenagers Must Die, Colbert Alembert, Howard Cai, Andre Meadows and Julie Barzman.

Of particular interest is the film's director, Scott Wheeler; this will mark Wheeler's fourth time as a director - after Journey to the Center of the Earth, Transmorphers 2: Fall of Man, and MILF -  and he's also been behind the lens of a few other Asylum movies: he was a still photographer on Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls, camera operator on Sunday School Musical and Merlin and the War of Dragons, and most recently he served as the director of photography on the visually lush Sherlock Holmes. 

Celebrity Sex Tape is slated to drop - you guessed it - on Valentine's Day of next year.

In other news, the page for Amityville Haunting has also appeared over at the Asylum site. We already knew this was a "found-footage" film, so details are appropriately scarce. This is all we know about the plot: 

"Actual found footage that documents the horrifying experience of a family that moved into the infamous haunted house." 

Not a lot to go on, but scares and ghostly-goings-on seem guaranteed. Amityville Haunting comes to DVD and Blu-Ray on December 13th of this year. You've been warned. 

Asylum Producer Gives Australian Interview

Pretty rad interview here with Asylum Producer David Michael Latt for Australia's Universal Channel. Seems the Aussies are airing something awesomely entitled Mockbuster Mayhem, in which they'll be airing a handful of Asylum titles, and they wisely thought an interview with one of the head honchos would be the perfect icing on the cake.

Check it out for yourself, but the most interesting part, to me at least, is the revelation of two new titles soon to enter production: Celebrity Sex Tape and Air Disaster. Now, Celebrity Sex Tape speaks for itself, but Air Disaster I'm curious about. Of course, there's the obvious title similarity to Airline Disaster, and presumably a similar premise, but who knows? It could also be a thriller concerning threatened oxygen or a live-broadcast catastrophe. Stay tuned for details as they emerge...
