REMINDER: 2-Headed Shark Attack on SyFy Saturday Night!!!

Just a friendly reminder that this Saturday night at 9 p.m. marks the U.S. Television Premiere of 2-Headed Shark Attack on SyFy.

The film - starring Brooke Hogan, Charlie O'Connell, Carmen Electra, directed by Christoper Ray from a script by yours truly, H. Perry Horton, based on a story by Ed DeRuiter - has been hailed and reviled by critics worldwide, so jump on the bandwagon and see what the hype is all about.

Saturday. 9 p.m. Syfy. A shark with two heads and more bikini screen-time than most sex comedies. What more could you ask for?

If it's Tuesday, this must be where I tell you about the latest Asylum release streeting today on DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD: this time it's Shark Week, respectfully described as Saw meets Jaws, which is hook enough for me.

The film, which had its World Premiere earlier this month on the prestigious SyFy Channel, stars Patrick Bergin as a maniacal shark aficionado who kidnaps seven unwitting strangers and forces them through a gauntlet of increasingly more dangerous shark species. Yancy Butler is his femme fatale. Christopher Ray directed it, based on a script I, H. Perry Horton, had a hand in. Guaranteed you won't soon forget this film, so get out there, get your hands on it, and start making memories.

2 HEADED SHARK ATTACK Gets a US SyFy Premiere!!!

Get ready for another Saturday-shark-movie-marathon on SyFy next month, because 2 Headed Shark Attack is at long last making its U.S. television debut on September 8th!

The film - directed by Christopher Olen Ray (Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, Shark Week) and written by me, H. Perry Horton (A Haunting in Salem, Shark Week) from a story by Edward Deruiter (3 Musketeers) and starring Brooke Hogan, Carmen Electra and Charlie O'Connell - has been out on DVD since January of this year and in that time has received rave reviews from shark film aficionados worldwide.

If you're a fan of Brooke Hogan. September 8th is an especially special evening, because immediately preceding 2HSA is her other film to date, Sand Sharks, a truly delightful, fun and thrilling film directed by Asylum-regular Mark Atkins (Dragon Crusaders, Battle of Los Angeles). September 8th also happens to be my birthday. Pretty, pretty sweet present.

Watch SHARK WEEK on SyFy Tomorrow Night!

Just a reminder - as though you needed another one - that tomorrow night, the next movie from The Asylum, and my third script for the studio, Shark Week, makes its World Premiere on SyFy at 9 p.m. If you like sharks all sizes, devious madmen with a penchant for sick games, femme fatales, true-hearted protagonists or even just lots of blood, this one if definitely up your alley. If you're on the Twitter, there's a live tweet-a-thon going on during the East Coast premiere that will include director Christopher Olen Ray and several members of the cast and crew. Hash tag Shark Week and all that. I myself will be watching the West Coast premiere later that night, the same way I watch all my scripts for the first time: under a blanket in a dark, locked room, covered in flop sweats, before the scattered empties of cheap wine coolers.

inmate profiles: Patrick Bergin & Yancy Butler

With only a few days before Shark Week makes its World Premiere on Syfy - this Saturday night, 9 p.m. - it's high time we take a closer look at the actors who bring the film to life. And who better to start with than our two leads, Patrick Bergin and Yancy Butler? Ladies first:

Yancy Butler was born and raised in American Bohemian paradise, Greenwich Village in New York City. She began studying acting in her early teens, and made her debut in her early 20s on an episode of Law & Order, which got the attention of network execs who quickly signed her to their new sci-fi show Mann & Machine in which she played, and I'm quoting, a "voluptuous robot partner" to a brash cop. The series lasted only nine episodes, but a star was born. 

Once she invigorated the big screen in John Woo's Hard Target opposite JCVD, Ms. Butler's status as a sexy tough gal was cemented. From there she went on to star in such movies as Drop Zone with Wesley Snipes, Fast Money, Ravager, Doomsday Man, Striking Range with Lou Diamond Phillips, and more recently Kick-Ass with Nicholas Cage and both Lake Placid 3 & 4. And of course there's her work in television, which included Brooklyn South, a gritty cop show spearheaded by David "Deadwood" Milch, and Witchblade, the role for which she is perhaps best remembered. All in all, Ms. Butler has made a steady career for 20 years playing as one badass lady; Shark Week should prove no exception.

Then there's the venerable Patrick Bergin, a son of Dublin and a veritable star on both sides of the Atlantic. After starring on stage in screen abroad, Bergin first came to the attention of American audiences via the Julia-Roberts thriller Sleeping With the Enemy, in which he was the Enemy. His other big U.S. role came opposite Harrison Ford in Patriot Games. 

Beyond these roles, Bergin has appeared in near 100 productions, including roles as Robin Hood, Dr. Frankenstein, St. Patrick, King Arthur, Dracula, Casanova and now Tiburon, maniacal shark fetishist. 

And now the fates have aligned and at last these two talents shall share the same screen as the devious duo behind Shark Week, on SyFy this Saturday night at 9 p.m., then on DVD a few weeks later on August 28th. Written by me, H. Perry Horton, and directed by Chrisopher Olen Ray, for whom the film marks a shark hat trick, after Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus and 2 Headed Shark Attack, the latter of which I also penned. Just so you know your in good hands. Or fins.*

3 Inmates Win 2012 Golden Cob Awards!!!

The Annual Golden Cob Awards for excellence in B-movies, presented by the B-Movie Celebration, were announced over the weekend, and The Asylum has not one, not two, but three inmates being honored for their work over the last year!

First up is actor Bill Oberst Jr., who is being honored as the Best Rising B Movie Actor for his work in last October's ghost flick A Haunting in Salem, in which he played the paranormally-beleagured Sheriff Wayne Downs. Oberst has also appeared in The Princess and the Pony, Born Bad and - a film sure to get recognition of its own next year - Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies.

Next there's the winner for the Best B Movie Soundtrack, The Asylum's musical maestro Chris Ridenhour. Though Ridenhour puts out, like, four dozen scores over the course of the last year, the Golden Cobs are singling out his epic and adventurous work on Mark Atkins' Dragon Crusaders as the best of the year. Ridenhour can next be heard in Shark Week, premiering on SyFy on August 4th, then the disaster flick Supercyclone, then zombie-fest Dead Walking, also set to premiere on SyFy, in October.

And last but by no means least there is director Christopher Olen Ray - of Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, Almighty Thor and 2 Headed Shark Attack fame - who is being honored with the festival's Bill Cothron Best Emerging Filmmaker Award. His next effort, Shark Week - as mentioned above - premieres on SyFy on August 4th at 9 p.m.

SHARK WEEK POSTER!!!!!

With less than a month before its World Premiere on SyFy - Saturday, August 4th, 9p.m. - Shark Week, the next creature feature from the fine folks at The Asylum, at long last has a poster, and a pretty rad tagline:

"7 Days, 7 Sharks, 1 Survivor!" Poetry, pure poetry. 

The film - starring Patrick Bergin and Yancy Butler, and directed by the great Chris Olen Ray (2-Headed Shark Attack, Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus) off a script written by yours truly, H. Perry Horton (A Haunting in Salem, 2-Headed Shark Attack) - hits DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD on August 28th, and is already available for pre-order on Netflix and Amazon. Until then, or at least until a trailer arrives, I'm just going to be staring at this.

SHARK WEEK Gets a SyFy Premiere!!!!

In a tidbit that rivals the invention of fire as the greatest news ever, SyFy announced their lineup of Saturday Night Movies for the month of August, and they're going to be kicking things off on the 4th at 9 p.m. with the World Premiere of The Asylum's latest shark-saga, Shark Week. This news is especially thrilling to me, as I wrote the daggum thing.

This is not from the movie; it is, however, quite cool.

The film - which stars the venerable Patrick Bergin (Sleeping with the Enemy, Patriot Games) and the versatile Yancy Butler (Witchblade, Lake Placid 3 & 4) - is directed by Christopher Olen-Ray, and marks his third shark film for the studio, behind Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus  and 2-Headed Shark Attack, which I also had the honor of scripting. No poster, production stills, trailer or additional casting has been made public as of yet, but you better believe I'm refreshing various web pages every three or four minutes, all day long, just waiting. As soon as this stuff pops up, I'm gonna post the hell out of it.

To call this a happy moment would be severely understating things; I'm nauseous with glee. I'm really proud of the script and really excited to see how the film came out, and reallllllly excited I'll be watching it with a million or so others. I've already booked the bar for the viewing party. For real.

The Asylum's SHARK WEEK Details Revealed

It's been a while we've been waiting, but The Asylum has finally revealed some details about Shark Week, and I, for one, am super stoked for the news, seeing as I wrote it. 

The film, which will be out on August 7th, is to be directed by the one and only Christopher Olen Ray, who with this film gets his shark hat trick, following Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus and 2 Headed Shark Attack. Dig the plot:

"A group of complete strangers find themselves isolated by a wealthy madman on his island compound. They are forced into a horrifying gauntlet where they must survive a barrage of ever deadlier species of shark."


Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. 

The cast for this one is pretty, pretty, pretty awesome, and includes Patrick Bergin (Sleeping With The Enemy, Patriot Games) as the madman in question, Yancy Butler (Witchblade, Lake Placid 3 & 4) as his femme fatale and Erin Coker (11/11/11, Air Collision) & Josh Allen (Nazis at the Center of the Earth) as two of the terrorized strangers.


Words can't describe how proud I am of this script - think of it as The Hunger Games meets Deep Blue Sea - and I for one can't wait to see how it turns out. More cast and crew details as they become available...

inmate re-profile: Director Christopher Olen Ray

So, with only three weeks before the DVD release of 2 Headed Shark Attack, I thought it time we start shining the Committed spotlight on the creative personnel involved, starting with the man in the director's chair of this impending classic, one Christopher Olen Ray.

That's Mr. Ray on the left there.

Ray has directed twice before for the Asylum - last year's Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus with Jaleel White and this year's Almighty Thor with Richard Grieco - as well as twice before that: in 2008 he directed Reptisaurus, a made-for-TV movie starring Gil Gerard, and a series called "Road to Rhythm." 

I've made mention here before of Mr. Ray's cinematic pedigree - his father is noted exploitation director Fred Olen Ray, who in more than thirty years of filmmaking has unleashed nearly one hundred titles, among them Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Evil Toons and Scalps. Ray honed his skills spending years as an assistant director, PA and coordinator on more than a dozen of his father's films, so you know he received a lot of firsthand, on-set training from a master of the field. In fact, C-Ray's still works as a first assistant director on occasion, most recently on two other Asylum films - A Haunting in Salem and Zombie Apocalypse - and also on an upcoming C. Thomas Howell film I've made mention of before, Camel Spiders.

Christopher Ray, therefore, is no stranger to the creature-feature game - as MSvC clearly and deftly proved - he is weathered, learned, and more than capable of delivering to us, the ever-expectant masses, simply one of the Greatest Shark Films of all time (please please please).

Decades from now when they mention the best B-Movies of the early 21st Century, I have every faith 2 Headed Shark Attack will be on the tip of every tongue, as well as the name of its director, Christopher Olen Ray. Watch the magic unfurl before your very eyes when the greatest story ever told hits DVD January 31st, 2012, only a few short weeks from now...

A Look at the Cast of 2 Headed Shark Attack

With only two Asylum films yet to be released in 2011 - the found-footage mystery-project The Amityville Haunting  and the already-aired Zombie Apocalypse - I thought it apt to take a look ahead to the first of the studio's 2012 slate, the destined-for-greatness 2 Headed Shark Attack.

The film, directed by Christopher Ray (Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, Almighty Thor) from a story by Edward DeRuiter (3 Musketeers) and a script from yours truly (A Haunting in Salem), boasts a triumvirate of talents in the leads - Carmen Electra, Brooke Hogan and Charlie O'Connell. I've previously made note of their and a couple others' qualifications, but as this is a BIG cast, there are a lot of people left to highlight. So here's the latest crop of actors set to portray the unfortunate lot of semester-at-sea-students run afoul of nature's most vicious mistake, the 2-headed shark.

Actor Geoff Ward will tackle the role of "Cole," the strong, popular sort. A South Florida native, Ward has been acting on film since 2004, appearing in such projects as Dark Queen, Bachelor Party 2: The Last Temptation and TV series "The Glades."

Anthony E. Valentin plays "Dakilla," one of two Filipino crew members (the other being Gerald Webb's "Han."). Valentin has also been appearing on screen since 2004, The Fiesta Grand, Fast Food and an episode of "Burn Notice" among his credits.

In the role of "Alex" is actor Benjamin James. 2 Headed Shark Attack looks to be his first feature, but he was worked in television, appearing in the programs "Magic City" and "Wicked Attraction."

Michael Dicarluccio shall inhabit the character of "Ethan." This is also Dicarluccio's first feature, though not his first credits; he has previous appeared as himself in the documentary short Consequences, and as an actor in the short I'm Still On Probation, Remember?

And then there is a quartet of brand-newbies, actors making their first credited appearance on screen: Lauren Vera, Tihirah Taliaferro, Casey King Leslie and Marckenson Charles. Lucky kids these, starting their careers on a film sure to become a cult classic.

Might still be a name or two out there waiting to be revealed, but for the most part, these guys, added to all the others, make the core 20 characters in 2 Headed Shark Attack. That's a lot of bait. See for yourself how it goes down when 2 Headed Shark Attack hits DVD on January 31st of next year.

2-Headed Shark Attack Set to Invade the British Isles in 2012!!!

According to one of my favorite sites, Dread Central, it seems B-movies fans across the pond have something to cheer about this week, as it was announced that 2 Headed Shark Attack - or Two Headed Shark Attack as they're calling it - will be released on DVD in Spring of 2012, courtesy of prolific British producer Jonathan Sothcott (Dead Cert, Devil's Playground, upcoming Strippers vs Werewolves with Robert Englund and Elfie Hopkins with Ray Winstone). Check out these excerpts from the press release:

"Prolific UK horror producer JONATHAN SOTHCOTT (Strippers Vs Werewolves, Elfie Hopkins) is bringing some very different genre films to the British home entertainment market in 2012 through his ‘Jonathan Sothcott Presents’ imprint with leading indie distributor 4Digital Media.

First up, and in keeping with the spirit of Sothcott’s own instant camp classic Strippers Vs Werewolves is TWO-HEADED SHARK ATTACK starring uber-babes CARMEN ELECTRA and BROOKE HOGAN. Sothcott notes, “I love shark movies, JAWS is my favourite film, and I see every one that comes out. This one is destined to become a DVD favourite with its deliriously satisfying visual buffet of stunning babes, outrageous gore and a truly brilliant monster. Casting Brooke and Carmen was brilliant, as they are A grade totty the boys will fall in love with between the amazing set piece deaths the film is peppered with.”

"Sothcott, whose Black and Blue Films has produced 8 UK feature films in the last 2 years, worked as Head of Acquisitions for The Horror Channel some years ago. 4Digital Media’s Tony Taglienti commented, “I always say Jonathan is one of the most commercially-minded producers I know, and we are delighted to be teaming with him on these releases. He has a Roger Corman–type showmanship and is really in love with the genre and helps us reach further on these titles than we might otherwise.

Sothcott said, “Having released a number of my own pictures with 4Digital, I know that indie films have a great home there for the UK. Tony, Steve and Sally really look after film-makers and offer them a truly personal service, and I’m delighted to be working with them on these and other third party titles.

In 2011 Sothcott brought US imports The Frankenstein Syndrome (starring Tiffany Sheppis) and Dead West (as Cowboys Vs Vampires) to the UK market, along with underrated Brit chiller Mindflesh. These films were successful enough for him to formalise his relationship with 4DigitalMedia, and they are looking to collaborate on up to 10 releases per year.

Both films will be released on DVD in spring 2012."

Pretty cool stuff. Sounds like Sothcott's seen the film, or at least parts of it, and it sounds like he's pretty impressed. And speaking of impressive, dig the UK poster for the flick:

I like it, has a real Piranha 3D feel to it. I also love it that the unfortunate woman on the right has somehow managed to lose her bikini top. That's gonna be a rad scene, trust me.

Over here in the U.S. of A., 2 Headed Shark Attack - starring Carmen Electra, Brooke Hogan, Charlie O'Connell and a deep, talented cast directed by Christopher Ray off a script by me, H. Perry Horton, from a story by Edward DeRuiter - will be released on DVD January 31st, 2012, about two months from now. I literally don't know if I can wait that long. 

2 Headed Shark Attack Gets a New Release Date

Never fear, though, we shan't have to wait much longer than originally expected. 2 Headed Shark  Attack - my 2nd script for The Asylum based on a story by Edward DeRuiter, directed by Christopher Olen Ray and starring, among others, Carmen Electra, Brooke Hogan and Charlie O'Connell - has been pushed back from its street date of January 17, to January 31st, 2012. A measly two weeks, an well-worth the wait for what is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated film of the year. 

So drill that into you head, and tell everyone you know: 2 Headed Shark Attack on DVD January 31st, 2012.

inmate profile: Cole S. McKay

Take a look at the picture up there, a good look: the penetrating stare, the awesome fucking mustache, the jacket; that, ladies and gentlemen, is what a Badass looks like.

Cole S. McKay: stunt man extraordinaire turned director. Kinda like Colt Seavers, but real. Earlier this year he directed 200 MPH, The Asylum's white-knuckle racing flick. His latest project? You guessed it, the upcoming Asylum release 3 Musketeers. 

There isn't a lot of biographical info on Mr. McKay online, but his resume more than speaks for itself. Since 1986 he has served as a stunt man in one capacity or another for 221 films and television productions. 221. Even cooler, know what his first film was? Three Amigos. Uh-huh. Badass.

Other films Mr. McKay defied death in include Star Trek VI, Demonic Toys, Leprechaun, Super Mario Brothers, Lost Highway, Wishmaster 1 & 2, The Devil's Rejects, American Pie Band Camp, a driving double for Kyle Gass in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, and Cloverfield. He's also worked with The Asylum several times as the stunt coordinator for The Terminators, Ballistica, Titanic II and Battle of Los Angeles. Badass, badass, badass.


McKay started directing in 1988, and among his more notable films are Star Hunter, co-directed by Fred Olen Ray (father of MSvC, Almighty Thor and 2 Headed Shark Attack director Christopher Ray) starring Roddy McDowell and Stella Stevens, and his last non-Asylum film, 2006's Special Ops: Delta Force, which featured Titanic II and Mega Fault's Bruce Davison.

And the best of all this background is that McKay's storied career path has led him to present moment, on the cusp of releasing his second directorial effort for The Asylum, 3 Musketeers, on DVD next Tuesday, October 25th. His next effort is also kinda Asylum-related: he'll be directing Blackgate, a film written by and starring Asylum vet Paul Logan.
