AGE OF DINOSAURS Gets an Awesome Trailer!!!

Age Of Dinosaurs, the next Asylum feature from directer Joseph Lawson (Nazis at the Center of the Earth, Clash of the Empires) has at long last gotten a trailer, and man oh man does it kick ass. Check it out here.

In addition to the trailer, I've also seen the first 15 minutes of this gem (courtesy of a not-to-be-named source), and I can tell you, the first act lives up to the promise. Age of Dinosaurs was written by Hank Woon Jr. - who also penned 500 MPH Storm and contributed to the Atlantic Rim script - and stars Treat Williams (Hair, Deep Rising, Everwood), Ronny Cox (Robocop, Total Recall, Beverly Hills Cop) and Jillian Rose Reed (Awkward, My Super Pyscho Sweet 16 3). We have to wait until May 7th to see the whole film, but by the looks of the trailer, it's going to be worth the wait.

ALIEN ORIGIN has a Trailer and a Poster

The Asylum's next found-footage documentary, Alien Origin, won't be released for a couple weeks, but now we have a look at the trailer:

The footage comes courtesy of an Adventure Journalist accompanying a Special Forces team in Belize back in 2010. This, to anyone's knowledge, will be the first time the footage has been made available to the general public.

A Plethora of Asylum Teaser Trailers Hit the Web Today!!!

So it seems with today's DVD release of 2 Headed Shark Attack, there also comes a spattering of new teaser trailers from our favorite independent studio, available on their homepage.

We get our first peaks at Celebrity Sex Tape (out 2/14/12), Grimm's Snow White (out 3/13/12) and at long last Nazis at the Center of the Earth, which looks, as expected, AWESOME (out 5/15/12).

Air Collision Final Poster and First Trailer!

Born Bad Coming to DVD 11/8/2011 - Next Week!!!

Though it had it's world premiere on the Lifetime network back in March - a first for The Asylum - Jared Cohn's taut, edgy thriller Born Bad hasn't hit DVD as of yet, meaning - I'm willing to bet - that most if not all of you have yet to see it. I saw it on Lifetime. I've been hooked on the network ever since. They got some real crazy shit going on there. Have you seen "Dance Moms?" I digress.

The wait is over, is my point, because a mere 6 days from now, Born Bad will be released to the world on DVD!

Furthermore, this will be the "Uncut" version, a.k.a. the scarier, steamier, bloodier version of this brutally charming film. 

In celebration of this, I'll be re-posting some things I put out during Born Bad's premiere, including my exclusive interview with the film's writer/director Jared Cohn tomorrow, and Friday my spoiler-free notes on the film.

A tale of young love gone violently wrong, Born Bad stars Bonnie Dennison ("Guiding Light") as a beautiful teen in a lonely new town, Michael Welch (Twilight, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) as the predatory lothario who steals her heart, and David Chokachi ("Baywatch," 3 Musketeers) and Meredith Monroe ("Dawson's Creek") as the rightfully-concerned dad and step-mom.

3 Musketeers Gets a Trailer!!!

Well, that was a quick hiatus for me, but deservedly-interrupted by the release today of the trailer for The Asylum's take on Alexandre Dumas' classic adventure tale 3 Musketeers. The film - written by Ed DeRuiter and directed by Cole S. McKay - looks to be AWESOME. I've said it more than once this year and no doubt I'll say it a couple times more, but Asylum features have gotten a serious upgrade, FX-wise, and I say that as someone who has always loved their FX. But this new stuff, especially the aerial FX and action sequences shown in this trailer are outstanding and totally do their job of getting me pumped for the film.

3 Musketeers stars Heather Hemmens, Xin, Alan Rachins, Keith Allan, Michelle Boyd and David Chokachi, and hits the streets in DVD form on the 25th of October.

Barely Legal Trailer Up Now!

With 2012 Ice Age out on DVD today, it's time to turn our attention to the next Asylum release, the sex-comedy Barely Legal, which drops at the end of this month. And as of now, over at The Asylum site, the first, scintillating trailer is up.
This one looks to be...well...sexy. See for yourself what I mean, then show up July 26 when all the naughty fun is yours to take home... 

inmate profile: Jaz Martin

Another spotlight on a cast member of the upcoming Asylum release 200MPH, and this time the lead, Englander Jaz Martin. 

A lifelong entertainer, Martin studied drama at Britain's University of Sunderland before making the interesting career shift into owning a wall and floor tiling business. But that acting bug, it's kind of like a chigger: once it gets at you, it gets under your skin and becomes really, really difficult to get rid of; but you know, in a good way. 

So he chucked - or rather, sold - the business and made perhaps the boldest, bravest, most brazen idea of his life: to move to L.A. and try and land an acting career. 

And daggum it if he hasn't gone and done just that.

After only a couple of years kicking around Tinseltown, 2011 is shaping up to be the year of Jaz Martin's big break. Besides the lead in 200MPH, he also scored the lead in Breathe, a short, as well as a role in the ensemble thriller The Shattering, slated for release later this year. 

So between Mr. Martin here and Ms. Demara recently-profiled, 200MPH stands to be the big break for at least two talented newcomers. Here's hoping when April 26th rolls around and 200MPH is in our collective DVD players, they bring the thunder. If the trailer's any indication, they're gonna.

30-Second Spot for Battle of Los Angeles Hits SyFy Site!

Though there's still no trailer, The Asylum has released the first 30-second commercial spot for Battle of Los Angeles, set to debut on SyFy March 12th at 9pm. Jump over to the site for the clip, then jump back here and let me know what you think. Personally, I think this looks to be the most explosive, destructive film we've seen from The Asylum since perhaps Meteor Apocalypse. Disaster flicks are a big theme in this year's Asylum's releases, at least as scheduled, so it'll be interesting to see how they've raised the bar, FX-wise.

Battle of Los Angeles was written and directed by Mark Atkins, and stars Kel Mitchell and Nia Peeples. 

Princess and the Pony Trailer Released!

The presents just keep coming from The Asylum this week. First we got the set pics from Almight Thor, then the DVD release of Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, now we get the trailer for The Asylum's first full-on family film, Princess and the Pony, formerly known as 1st Furry Valentine. The film looks to be positively charming, and strangely suitable for kids. Check it out for yourself right here.

outside the walls: Non-Asylum Inklings

So I'll admit it, there are films not produced by The Asylum. There always have been, always will be. These glasses I wear are not rose-colored. They are clear, and occasionally smudged with fingerprints. A sampling of non-Asylum films due soon and news that might spark the interest of Asylum fans. Just remember, Sweet 'n Low ain't Sugar.

A Couple of Trailers to Peep

While nothing can trump the awesomeness that is the Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus trailer, there are a couple notable Norwegian films opening soon that might catch the interest of Asylum fans. That's right, you read correctly, both of these films are Norwegian, but they're dubbed, and they look awesome. In fact, between these and Let the Right One In, Scandinavia is quickly replacing the French as purveyors of the finest European horror. First up is a nice little Christmas movie that opens in the U.S. today in limited release, then expands over the rest of the month, Rare Exports.

 A synopsis from the site: "It's the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, and an 'archeological' dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn't the one you want coming to town. When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. Santa's elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality."

Yup. You can check out the trailer at the film's website, as well as a schedule of when it opens where. It's been a while - maybe since Silent Night, Deadly Night 2, as I'm not counting the recent remake of Black Xmas as anything other than gratuitous jiggly eye candy - since we've had a good, old-fashioned scary Christmas movie; this looks like the perfect refresher.

Then there's the big gun, the film with a tagline that boasts, "The most important film of the year is Norwegian," and at the moment, I am hard-pressed to believe them (provided they mean other than MSvC, of course): The Troll Hunter. Part Blair Witch, part Cloverfield, all Norwegian, this horror spectacle is ripe for ripping off by an American studio, so I would recommend The Asylum get on this now before Matt Reeves is given another job. 

As of last month, The Troll Hunter has been picked up for U.S. distribution by the folks over at Magnet, and should hit our theaters sometime in 2011, I'm betting the latter half. Until then, watch this almost as many times as you would the MSvC trailer, and marvel at the finest idea to strike contemporary horror since 30 Days of Night. Hopefully, though, this one will not be a clusterfuck shitstorm like that film. Sorry David Slade, but you know I'm right.





Requisite SyFy Original Movie Schedule

They're not all as good as The Asylum productions, but rumor has it there are some other entertaining films under the wildly popular "SyFy Original Movies" banner, particularly those that air at 9 p.m. on Saturdays, quickly becoming the most creaturiffic night in all of television. A look at the upcoming schedule:

December 3 it's a Depp-athon, nothing original about that.

December 11, Ice Quake airs, starring Brendan Fehr ("Roswell," The Forsaken), Holly Dignard (Polar Storm, which airs just before this) and directed by Paul Ziller (Polar Storm, again airing just before, and Yeti, which airs just after, so it's a Ziller-Triple-Feature!) 

December 18 they again ditch the original program for studio schlock, The Cave, this time, but then they make it up to us on Christmas Day with a water-themed original movie marathon that includes such stellar titles as Sea Snakes, Frankenfish, Eye of the Beast, Lake Placid 3, Sea Beast, Snakehead Terror, Malibu Shark Attack, Shark Swarm and Spring Break Shark Attack. Now, I've seen each of these films, but never in a row. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

It's Here! It's Here! It's Here! Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus Trailer!!!

At long last, the moment we've all been anxiously awaiting has arrived, the year's most eagerly anticipated trailer is finally here: Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. From the looks of things, this has the potential to be the Best...Asylum...Film...EVER The film itself drops on December 21st, but until then, watch this over and over and over, and help make it, like its predecessor, one of the most Googled trailers of the year!
